Computer Lab

The Computer and Information Technology Applications in the Humanities Laboratory of the School of Humanities at the University of Crete has computers set up in a specific configuration and connected to the internet. In this space, laboratory courses are held according to the schedule, under the supervision and guidance of the teaching staff.

The space is also available for research conducted by the Teaching Staff and for the preparation of assignments by undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The main objectives of the laboratory are

  1. Supporting the teaching needs of the courses.
  2. Facilitating the education of students.
  3. Supporting research and development programs.
  4. Providing services to third parties within the framework of their collaboration with the School or its Departments.
  5. Acquiring expertise in the installation, modification, and development of software tools, particularly in the field of Digital Humanities.

Research/Development and Educational Activities of the Laboratory

The laboratory may submit proposals for carrying out research/development projects or studies to private and public sector bodies. Proposals are submitted in collaboration with and through the Research Committee / Special Account for Research Funds, if they concern external funding.

In any case, the Director of the laboratory appoints a Project Team with a responsible person and members.

The main axes of the laboratory’s activities are the following:

  • Conducting research to meet teaching and research needs at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Creating theoretical, scientific, and technological infrastructure for the more comprehensive teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate courses related to the laboratory’s research subjects.
  • Developing research by postgraduate students within the scope of the laboratory’s subjects.
  • Developing new research programs to cultivate fields related to the nature of the laboratory.
  • Networking and all forms of collaboration with educational institutions and research centers in Greece and abroad, provided their scientific goals coincide with, align with, and complement those of the laboratory.
  • Coordinating relevant research programs and their functional interconnection from a scientific and administrative perspective.
  • Providing services to third parties, provided there is relevance to the laboratory’s scientific field.
  • Disseminating the knowledge produced through the publication of scientific articles, books, and monographs.
  • Organizing workshops, symposia, or meetings with expert scientists from Greece or abroad.
  • Developing teaching materials and methods falling within the laboratory’s scientific field.
  • The laboratory may host student internships involving computers and ICT training and certification programs in basic skills.

Approval of the establishment of the Laboratory named ‘Computer and Information Technology Applications in the Humanities Laboratory’ of the School of Humanities at the University of Crete and approval of its Internal Operating Regulations”, following the consent of the Assembly of the School’s Departments, the decision of the Deanship of the relevant School, and that of the University’s Senate (Meeting 425/20.02.2020).
