Welcome to the new website of the School of Humanities
The School of Humanities was founded in 1976 and is the oldest of the Schools of the University of Crete in Rethymno.
The unified School of Humanities accepted for the first time about 140 students in the academic year 1977-1978.
From 1983 onwards, it operates with three Departments: the Department of Philology, the Department of History and Archaeology, and the Department of Philosophy (formerly the Department of Philosophical and Social Studies).

Center for Mediterranean Culture in Neapoli
The University of Crete’s Governing Council unanimously decided to establish a Center for Mediterranean Culture, based in Neapoli, Lassithi.
The Center will host the ‘Laboratory of Medieval and Modern History and Archaeology of the University of Crete’ as well as other cultural activities.
